Kansas City, We have arrived. The flight was uneventful except for the TSA agent that insisted that I put my shoes back on immediately. I am not sure why, but she was making gagging noises and funny faces. We located our hotel called ‘The Savoy’. This is a historical and very kool place. The great W.C. Fields once stayed here. I will elaborate later about this wonderful place. Our friend Carol gifted us some ‘Royals’ baseball tickets. We programmed our trusty GPS and hit the Kansas interstate and promptly got in our first Missouri style traffic jam. I thought we only had traffic problems in California.
The Kauffman stadium is fairly new and built just for baseball. It is a beautiful ballpark and of course the first thing I noticed was the mobile beer vendor. Vendors walked up and down the aisles hawking cold suds. You may ask what is so strange about that? Are not mobile beer vendors, baseball, and hot dogs the American pastime? Well, not in California. Our local government bureaucracy has decided for our safety and sobriety we need to get up, miss part of the game and walk up to a vendor in another part of the stadium. I love Kansas City. We did our best to support our local mobile beer vendor.
We needed some Kansas City style food to soak up some of the Suds we had consumed. Our first stop was a barbeque booth (imagine that) to purchase a plate of ‘Burnt Ends”.‘Burnt Ends’ is a cut of a brisket cut from the point end. The point is marinated and smoked to create a flavorful and tender form of meat candy. These cubes of joy did not disappoint. Our next stop was the ‘Strouds’ pan-fried chicken booth. We ordered an assortment of fried chicken parts. One of the accompaniments was a sweet cinnamon roll. The fried chicken was stupendous. This was just a teaser to bring us to Strouds sit down restaurant later this week.
The ‘Royals’ were victorious scoring 3 run to the ‘Devil Rays’ 2. We scored with the wonderful Kansas City ballpark food treats. It was nice to see mobile beer vendors again. This was a great beginning to a week of eating our way through Missouri. Talk to you soon!
Fried chicken and cinnamon rolls? Now that's an interesting combo. Glad you are having fun and sharing it with us!
ReplyDeleteFried chicken and waffles is a more common combo, but the cinnamon roll works too ;-)
ReplyDeleteIf you don't go to Arthur Bryant's then you are a stinking Communist!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had yourself a hoot of a time out there in KC -- yeah you rite!
ReplyDeleteZoomie, We are going to the real Strouds tonight. I hear that cinamon roll is your starting bread basket.
ReplyDeleteZia, I love Fried Chicken.
