MAD MEAT GENIUS

HOMEROOM, mac + cheese
‘March Madness’ has created a gravity that has left me glued to the couch this weekend. I attempted to watch 32 NCAA tournament basketball games over a two day period. I was well on my way when Ms. Goofy demanded we leave the house and go out to lunch. She wanted to go to ‘Homeroom’, a restaurant that just recently opened. Homeroom’s specialty is Macaroni and Cheese. I could not refuse because I was starting to root.
We jumped into Ms. Goofy’s formula one racing Honda and made a FastBreak on the Blacktop to Oakland California. Luckily the Highway Referees did not see our high rate of Traveling and the Double Dribble of sweat on my brow. Upon arrival we were greeted with a small line of people. The owner Erin suggested that we sit at the communal table and that was fine with us.
Homeroom has a school room theme throughout this small restaurant. Blackboards, library index card cases and a beer dispenser. How come my school did not have a beer dispenser? The menu is simple. Several different combinations of Macaroni and Cheese are offered. You then can customize your dish with extras such as; breadcrumbs, mushrooms, peppers, bacon, vegetables, etc. etc. There are salads and desserts offered also. Ms. Goofy chose plain macaroni and cheese with extra bacon. ‘Mexican Mac’ which included chorizo, chipotle peppers, jack cheese and topped with bread crumbs and cilantro was my choice. Yes, of course I added extra bacon. The dishes were served very promptly.
Comforting and filling are our two after thoughts of our meal at Homeroom. These dishes of pasta and cheese filled the bill and our stomachs with grown up variations of our favorite dish from school. Bacon put these gooey dishes over the top. The ‘Mexican Mac’ had only a glimmer of heat which was fine. The cilantro and bread crumbs were a topping that was delightful. Ms. Goofy loved her cheese and pasta dish of memories
Homeroom is a nice place to have a cheesy plate of pasta for lunch. Order the macaroni and cheese combinations off the menu and customize it anyway you desire with the extras. We picked up a buttery and chocolaty brownie ‘To Go’ to bring back to the couch. I have a lot of basketball left to watch.

This post brought on suffering on way too any levels.
In an attempt to reset my metabolism, I have given up grains and dairy for thirty days -- and a few other foods. I have not missed them until I spoke to a cousin earlier tonight who mentioned mac and cheese. And then I saw these photos.
And then you mention basketball. a knife went through my heart when Butler beat Pitt on Saturday. One point?! I ignored all basketball on Sunday as a result. But some really good mac and cheese would have made it all better.
Kailyn, Thirty days will go by quickly. I am sorry that your team lost. The tournament brings out some of the best basketball ever. Say Hi to Boris from Oscar.
I see a food coma. Bacon, mac and cheese does it get better than that?
Greg, One of my favorite dishes. I did not have a coma but did spend a lot more time on the couch.
Looks like a whole lot of college meals, but better!
Yeah, I heard about this place. So cute! Funny, though. I'd rather have my mac 'n' chee at home.
Y'ever try seasoning it with pepperoni and dried oregano? Pizza mac! Red pepper flakes suggested.
Zia, I know what you mean. Kraft got me started in my food obsession.
cookiecurmb, Never tried that exact combination. It sounds interesting. I agree about cooking at home. We just needed to get out and give it a try.
I love the theme of the restaurant and the mac and cheese looked delicious! I love the addition of bacon of course :)
intern, If you are in the area check them out. The are getting a lot of press. We enjoyed our meal and wish them luck
Dickie V says: Oh baby, this mac and cheese is a diaper dandy! It's as smooth as Jimmer Fredette and pounds down the cheese like Tyler Zeller.
Charles Barkley says: My brackets suck.
