SMOKESTACK CULINARY SEASONING SMOKE

We have another Christmas stocking stuffer from my sister 'Thepresidentofcookies'. The Smokestack company has created a culinary seasoning smoke that is delivered in an easy convenient to use product. They offer different flavored smokes such as: hickory, mesquite, alder and applewood. These different woods have different meat flavor applications. What really differentiates this product is the addition of herbs and spices to the smoking woods. The wood and spices come in a resealable plastic container that is good for approximately 6 uses. This tube also contains a metal cannister with a hole in the top that holds the smoking material that is put on the fire to produce smoke. This product should be easy and convenient to use. We are going to try the Hickory flavor today on some chicken and sausage on the grill. Pull up a chair and watch the Smokestack works its magic.

This hickory wood also has the addition of vintage (?) oak, oregano and celery seed. The company recommends using this flavor with beef, chicken, lamb and vegetables. We built a charcoal fire using approximately 40 lit charcoals. They were placed on one side of our covered kettle grill. We then placed the Smokestack on the lit charcoals. Almost immediately smoke billowed out of this small container. The grill was put into position. The bottom vents were opened half way. The food was placed on the grill on the side away from the fire. The lid was put into positioned to create a indirect fire smoking chamber. Houston we have smoke-off. The aroma was of hickory. One hour later our smoked meal was ready.

Our chicken and sausage had a very nice smoke flavor. It did have the signature strong flavor of hickory. It was not overpowering possibly because the addition of oak, oregano and celery seed. Did I taste the oregano and celery seed? No, but it probably did add to the overall profile of the smoke flavor. Smokestack is a fun, convenient way to add smoke to your cook. Thankyou, Presidentofcookies for this bbq gift. We now have another excuse to fir up the grill this winter. (That was an attempt at humor. Our grill is going every weekend: "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these cookers from the swift completion of their appointed cooking duties.')

  1. Greg, I am very lucky in the gift department except for that elusive BGE. Maybe next year.

  2. Mr. Brown I have two quick question? (everyone that just rolled their eyes you are dead to me.)First, can you see a way to use this product in a oven? Yes I mean in the house. My prototype is two hotel pans, sheet metal screwed together. I foresee some drawbacks with that design. My second question is have you ever consider selling one or five of your 17 grills, barbecues and smokers? Santa and Mrs. Goofy would consider your request, not being so knotty may help.( But not likely.) Hee Hee GWH

  3. greatwhite hunter, To answer your first question; 'Are you cuckoo for cocoa puffs?
To answer your second question I have cleared out a bunch of cookers in the past. In fact Dr. Biggles backyard is a graveyard of sorts for some of my past smokers and grills. I cleared them out hoping Ms. Goofy would take pity on my effort to make room for the BGE. It did not work.

  4. This looks like a nice invention for a quick smoke on the old Weber kettle. I just may have to look around for this. I like the screw top container. Better than the foil packet method. How long did it produce smoke?

  5. Three Dogs BBQ, This product will work on any bbq or cooker with a heat source. This includes gas units but I would not recommend trying this inside as my highly confused, eccentric and sometimes creepy uncle like fellow meat adventurer suggested. If you are interested they have a web site. They claim the smoke lasts 20 to 40 minutes. It was plenty long enough for our small cook.

  6. Mr. Brown to answer your first question, yes I have all ways loved cocoa puffs especially made with chocolate milk. Mr. Brown, I have a question about the number of grills, barbecues and smokers you still have? The fact that Dr. Biggles is renting you space to store your grills, barbecues and smokers does not mean that you got rid of them. I know you still visit them. Santa knows all. Hee Hee. Mr. Brown, I have made progress on my indoor smoker machine and it was so easily done and cheap.(opened the windows and went to the garage and got my shop fans) oh happy days. Happy New Years to all, GWH

  7. greatwhite hunter, I am just waiting to read about you in the paper. Your neighbors will probably call the fire department or possibly you might get cited from the "Spare the Air" NAZI's. I cannot stress how dangerous this could be. It could cause smoke asphyxiation resulting in brain damage. Whoops to late on the cranium intellectual alignment. As far as visiting past smokers, Dr. Biggles and I have only made occasional contact through social media called Facebook that you shun because you are to hip(ster) to waste your valuable time on. In closing this year of 2014 I would like to ask you one last question. Does your backup camera on your new bicycle come with internet?
