2nd ANNUAL GRILLS & GRILLES

The Racing Honda was fueled and ready at the crack of dawn to depart on its break neck speed journey to Penn Valley, California to deliver hungry and excited certified Master Kansas City Society Barbeque judges to the 2nd Annual Grills & Grills. This was a bbq competition and car show to benefit the local chapter of the United Way. The weather was perfect with the thermometers hovering near the 80 mark. Skies were blue with a slight haze of beautiful pungent bbq smoke. Sit on back a and grab a drumstick because we would like to share a few images with you.

The Racing Honda had an extra passenger today. This was Ms. Goofy's sister Shastina. Shastina is pursuing her goal of becoming a Master Judge. We had to strap her down in the backseat because she was very excited. Shastina had reason to be excited because 28 teams would do battle cooking four meats of chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. I also had reason to be animated because I was sporting a brand new pair of bbq socks.

This was one fancy car show. This cobra driving through the lot was a show stopper in my book. There was a lot of spit and polish in this parking lot. There was a band to entertain while strolling the grounds. A few bouncy type apparatus was blown up for kids activities. If you still had some energy a very nice bocce ball court was available. The most important activity was eating barbeque.

The public could purchase meal tickets to sample and vote for real competition style bbq. Coming to a festival like this guarantees the opportunity to sample some of the best bbq in the nation. The local populace knew of this secret evident by the food line.

Once again we had some of the best bbq ever. I will never tire of the duty and privilege of scoring competition bbq. Congratulations to our friend Kevin of the team Smoky Luv for winning Grand Champion. Today was a beautiful day of good food, friends, and a whole lot of fun benefiting a local charity. It does not get any better than this.

  3. Big Dude, Good times for a worthy cause. You can't beat that.

Scott Simpson, We almost recreated the cool table this weekend. It is always a pleasure to see you. Believe it or not I have given up desserts for 30 days to prepare for my Yosemite hike.
